Maharashtrian Style (Chickpea) Chana Dal Recipe – Aamti

Everyday eating same type of dal getting bored??  Here is the new style dal recipe it is called Aamti.  it is very easy to make and very delicious in taste.  I am very sure that Kids and elders both will like this dal.

Use chana(chickpea) dal in this recipe. it is a very good source of fiber as well as maintain cholesterol level. Also, it is a very good source of Vitamins, protein, and zink.

So let’s make healthy and tasty Dal

Ingredients:

  • 4-5 cup Chana (chickpea) dal
  • 1 – coconut
  • 1 – red dry chili
  • 1 – bay leaf
  • 2 tsp – salt
  • 2-3 green chili
  • 3-4 spoon tamarind pulp
  • 1 tsp – turmeric powder
  • 8-10 garlic
  • 3-4 onion
  • 1 tsp – red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp – coriander powder
  • 1 tsp – mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp  – cumin seeds

How to Make

Cook chana dal in a pressure cooker up to 4-5 whistle.

 

 

Cut onion in a thin slice.  take a mixture jar and make a smooth paste of coconut, garlic, and green chili.

heat the oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds as they start spluttering, add dry red chili, bay leaf, onion, turmeric powder, salt and coconut paste.  saute for 2-3 minutes and add red chili powder and coriander powder.

Now add boiled Chana dal with water, add simple water if required to adjust consistency.

now add tamarind pulp. let it cook for 6-7 minutes, stir in between. Make sure that should not be stick in the bottom of a pan.  ( Tamarind pulp is optional but it will make our dal tastier. )

So your Aamti is ready to serve with fulka or rice.

Notes:

  1. you can use tuver dal instead of chana dal.
  2. you can use lemon instead of tamarind
  3. you can add 1-2 tsp jaggery if you like a sweet taste.
